What is QES Connect?
QES Connect is a bi-annual week of meet-ups and informal gatherings with fellow Queen Elizabeth Scholars.
This week gives you the opportunity to get to know – or spend some time with – other participants in the program. Knowing how busy you all are, we want to make these connections a little easier for you.
QES Connect takes place over a week so that you and your fellow scholars can pick the right time for you – a time that respects the cultural and national holidays or customs of your host community.
QES Connect is your chance to connect with other scholars living a similar experience to yours. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Here are some examples:
- Share your research & work over coffee
- Go to a local sporting event as a group
- Attend a cultural event in your community
You can host a meet-up anywhere really: a community center, a local restaurant or café or attend an event together. Think about what’s unique about where you are living. What about the great outdoors? Nothing better than the beach or park on a sunny day!
Who can participate?
Anyone part of the QES network: current scholars, interns and alumnae of the program. Others that may be interested:
- The professors that make your research or studies possible
- Your coworkers, if you are doing an internship
- Your local community foundation
- Individuals from your host university
If you are in a smaller community, explore whether or not you can connect with others in the QES network online. There are scholars all over the world: look at our map to find out who is where and doing what!
Be creative! Share your QES Connect event on social media with the QES hashtag #QEScholars. All posts with this hashtag will be featured on our Tagboard.

Hosting a meet-up
Hosting a meet-up is a great way to further develop your network and get to know scholars and members of the QES community. It’s fun and easy!
What is my role as a host?
As a host, you will need to find a venue for the meet-up and be responsible for the general organization – but don’t worry, nothing too complicated or time consuming! Register your meet-up by filling out the form below – once approved, you will receive an email from the Rideau Hall Foundation and your event will be added to the map above.
You will be the main point of contact for the QES community and the participants. Your time commitment will depend on how intricate you decide the event will be. It’s also a great opportunity for you to further enjoy possibilities offered by the program!
Attending a meet-up
If you can’t take on hosting a meet-up, make sure you sign up to attend one in your region. Click on the map to see the description and to sign up to attend. Signing up will help the organizer know how many people to expect. Feel free to share your meet-up ideas and suggestions with the organizer.
If you can’t find an event on the map for your city or region, consider organizing one! Someone in your region might just have been waiting for you to take the initiative!
